Hanley Ramirez and His Off Season

One of my most favorite
topics of reading to do is on premier athletes who "have it made" and still work harder than
the rest of the competition. Many athletes are striving for the next level and they
allow that quest to push them onward in their training. But what about those athletes
who have already made it to the highest level of baseball
as well as the highest income bracket in the Big Leagues?How do they continue to keep motivated
year after year? If you can crack the code to their mind set, you will only improve your
game.
I ran across an article recently on www.mlb.com on Hanley Ramirez. Many of
you who track baseball know this name. Relatively new to The Show, Ramirez put up massive
numbers last season (2009) hitting .342 with 24 home runs, 106 RBIs and 101 runs scored.
If you read the full article (found below) you'll see towards the end Ramirez says, "I
want to be more consistent. I could have hit .370, but the last [stretch hurt]. Last year,
it's in the past. Last year it was a little bit of a struggle at the end. It's a new year. My
legs, they're going to be stronger. I got scared with my hamstring. I woke up one morning and
decided to train my legs." Are you kidding me, .370
is crazy at the professional level. Even more impressive
than his success is the fact that he is leaving last season in the past and moving forward
and not being satisfied with his accomplishments.
The key to achieving anything great is to always live in the present
and forget what happened in the past, good or bad. This will always insure that you are pressing
forward in becoming the best athlete you can be. Unfortunately, this is often easier said
than done. It's difficult to do, though well worth the time and effort it takes to learn
how.
